RH Training's Philosophy

Rachel’s training philosophy is to first and foremost evaluate each horse as an individual.  There is no one right way to train to a horse, and Rachel believes that horses benefit from an array of training approaches.
What’s critical in Rachel’s training philosophy is that the horse, rider and trainer have a good set of communication skills.  This is vital in creating a strong and confident team.

A development of tempo and pace is often the first thing addressed, followed by an increasing level of demand on both horse and rider to work the hind end to the front to create a horse we call “on the bit” or a horse coming through his top line.  It is very important that we establish a forward energy that is able to be caught with elasticity in the front, utilizing the horses body in his most capable way.

Rachel believes that horse training is not linear-- that some days will be good, other days will be hard.  No matter the day, Rachel looks at it as if there are no bad rides, rather the rider and trainer need to approach or ask the horse of something differently, and the rider will learn how to handle her horse in different situations.
It is imperative that the horse knows he will never be asked of anything he can’t accomplish.  By doing so, Rachel instills great confidence in her horses, allowing them to move freely through their body and never doubt their capabilities.
